Want to know more about the best beaches on Koh Samui? We’ll tell you everything you need to know.

#1 Chaweng Beach - Most popular beach on Koh Samui

Chaweng Beach is similar to the city that surrounds it. Busy, large and very interesting. The beach stretches over 5 kilometers, which means there is always place for a nice walk or swim in the sea. If you stay in Chaweng, you are lucky. Chaweng Beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on Koh Samui, which means you don’t have to travel far to get the real tropical island feeling. Besides that, there is always something to do on the beach. Whether is water sports, swimming, entertainment or just going for a drink.

#2 Bophut Beach - Good beach for swimming

The town of Bophut is not known for its beaches. It’s mostly known for the picturesque fisherman village, that also happens to be one of the best sights on Koh Samui. But the beach also deserves some credit, since it’s several kilometers long and offers great places for swimming. The combination of activities, entertainment and culinary options on and around Bophut beach make it a place that you should definitely visit during your stay on Koh Samui.

#3 Lamai Beach - Great beach for swimming

Lamai resort is second in size, after the major city of Chaweng. Even though the city of Lamai is large, due to the size of the beach - several kilometers - you never feel like it’s too busy, as long as you are willing to find a quiet spot. Lamai Beach is also great for watersports or swimming because of the rock and coral free waters in the center of the beach. On the sides of the beach you can find big rocks, including the famous Grandfather & Grandmother rocks, which happens to be a very popular tourist attraction on Koh Samui.

#4 Maenam - Koh Samui’s quiet beach

Do you enjoy long evening walks along the beach? Would you like to spend a day on the beach without worrying where to put your towel or sunbed? Maenam is a rather large but relatively quiet beach in the North of Koh Samui. The coastline isn’t completely covered by huge resorts, which means that it’s easy to find a quiet or romantic place for yourself. Luckily there are more than enough bars and restaurants along the way for a small break.

#5 Choeng Mon - Smaller and more quiet beach

When you see images from Choeng Mon beach, it’s hard to believe that such a beautiful beach is not that crowded. The reason for that is simple. There are only a few hotels and resort that take up the space around the beach, which makes it a lesser known beach than other beaches on Koh Samui. This means that you can enjoy the white sandy beach as if it is your own private beach. A cool feature about Choeng Mon beach is the small island on the east side of the beach. With low tide you can walk to the island, which is a great place that offers just a few hotels and a restaurant.

#6 Lipa Noi - Koh Samui’s white sand beach

Lipa Noi is one of the white sand beaches that you can find on Koh Samui. Just being on this beach already gives you the bounty island experience, but the beach is also very convenient for families with kids. That’s because Lipa Noi offers long stretches of shallow water and no coral or rocks can be found in the water. Also the location of the beach is great. The pier for the car ferry is just around the corner, which is the best way to get to and from the mainland of Thailand.

#7 Taling Ngam - Best sunset beach on Koh Samui

What is more romantic than watching the sunset from a tropical island? Taling Ngam is by itself one of the most beautiful beaches on Koh Samui, mostly due to its location directly besides the jungle. And even though the beach is famous for sunbathing, it’s just as famous for watching a romantic sunset.

#8 Silver Beach - Most beautiful beach on Koh Samui

A lot of people say that Silver Beach (also called Crystal Beach) is their favorite beach on Koh Samui. That’s mostly because it offers a variety of things that give it a special island-feeling. It’s just 250 meters long, which makes it rather cosy. Also the shape, huge rock formations and green hills in the background contribute to make it seem like a typical beach that you’ll find on a tropical island. Because of its popularity and due to the fact that there are four major resorts next to the beach, it might get a little bit crowded at Silver beach. But with this beautiful scenery it’s a beach that you just shouldn’t cross off your list.

#9 Samrong Beach and Thongson Bay - Very quiet and nearly private beaches

There is an advantage to being the Northernmost beach on Koh Samui. Samrong Beach and Thongson bay are both relatively small beaches, but they can sometimes feel like a private beach to people that have accommodation in this area. The beaches are only shared with a handful of resorts, of which our Idyllic Samui Resort is one.The water on these beaches is crystal clear and swimming in the bays is very nice. The beach is also one of the few beaches on Koh Samui that offers beautiful white sand.

#10 Bang Por - Longest beach on Koh Samui

Featuring nearly 12 kilometers of sandy beaches, Bang Por is the biggest beach on Koh Samui. Besides this title, the beach also carries the name of ‘Best backpacker beach’, a name that was stolen from Maenam Beach. It was awarded with this name because of the many good accommodations around in this area that offer great prices for backpackers, even though there are several luxurious hotels and resorts situated on the beach as well. Along the beach you can find many bars and restaurants where you can go for a refreshing drink during a long day at the beach.
