Samui News: Bank Kok Airways flight to Koh Samui

Bangkok Airways plans to expand operations at Samui Airport following a significant increase in passenger numbers. The airport, located on the popular island of Koh Samui, welcomed over 1.4 million passengers between January and June this year. This marks a 22% increase compared to the same period in 2023, indicating a full recovery from the COVID-19 impact on tourism.

In response to this growth, Bangkok Airways has announced plans to increase the number of daily flights from 50 to 73. This expansion plan has already been approved by the relevant authorities. Besides increasing flight frequency, the expansion also includes major improvements to the airport infrastructure over the next three years. These enhancements will involve expanding the passenger terminal, adding more boarding gates, check-in counters, and baggage carousels, and increasing commercial space to 4,000 square meters.

Currently, Samui International Airport handles about 16,000 passengers daily and has an annual capacity of 6 million passengers. The airport serves 11 domestic and international routes operated by Bangkok Airways, along with four other airlines. These expansion plans aim to significantly support the growing tourism industry in both Surat Thani province and the broader southern region of Thailand.
