Bangkok in brackets
For those staying in Bangkok, it may take some getting used to and there is a good chance that the name Bangkok will be mentioned in brackets behind the new name Krung Thep Maha Nakhon from now on.
Bangkokpost reported last week that there is a draft announcement ready for this change.
The ministry that deals with geographical names has submitted a bill to change the name Bangkok to Krung Thep Maha Nakhon.
This proposal was approved during the weekly Council of Ministers.
According to the Bangkok Post, the same proposal includes name changes for Rome, Nepal and Myanmar.
Flight from Koh Samui to Krung Thep Maha Nakhon.
Those flying back to Bangkok after their stay at Idyllic Samui Resort will probably not have to search among the flight information at the airport for the new name. After the announcement, the name change could count on quite some criticism. Especially on social media there were many negative reactions. The official reaction of the Minister via facebook was that both names would be mentioned and that internationally the name Bangkok would be used.
It remains to be seen whether the name Krung Thep Maha Nakhon will be used officially.
