Travel to Idyllic Samui Resort, Thailand eases overseas entry rules

UPDATE: As of May 1, all travel restrictions to Thailand will be virtually eliminated. Even for non-vaccinated people Thailand will be more easily accessible again. Where this was previously impossible, Thailand is now open for tourism again. Please inform yourself in advance about what is necessary to travel to Thailand, such as insurances and vaccination certificates.

As of March 1, 2022, thailand will relax covid rules regarding foreign tourism. The stricter rules were in effect from 23-12-21 due to the emergence of the Omikron variant. Now that it appears that the Omikron variant is causing milder complaints, the government of Thailand announced relaxations on Wednesday, February 23.

PCR TEST + SHA quarantine hotel is replaced for self test at Idyllic Samui Resort itself

As of March 1, 2022, the mandatory PCR test plus the mandatory stay in a quarantine hotel will be replaced by a self-test on day 5 which can be performed at the resort itself. This will make the rules the same as before December 23.

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, Thailand has had a strict policy for tourists arriving from outside Thailand. After a long and severe lockdown, the Thai government first relaxed the domestic tourism policy. In 2021, the Thai government set up the so-called Sandbox program and supplemented it with the TEST & GO program at the end of 2021 to stimulate foreign tourism. Since the Omikron outbreak, the Sandbox program was reduced to a few locations in Thailand including Pukhet and Test & Go was abolished.

In January 2022, Test & Go was reinstated but with the addition of having a mandatory PCR test on day 5 at an SHA+ Hotel.

With the mandatory PCR test being dropped, the Thai government hopes to attract more tourism again. The cost for the mandatory test on day 5 was around 200 USD per person including accommodation in SHA+ hotel. Idyllic Samui Resort deducted the extra cost for the PCR test for guests who had booked a minimum of 14 days stay in one of the pool villas at the resort.

Mandatory additional insurance for travel to Thailand from 50,000 to 20,000 USD

In addition to the mandatory sandbox or TEST & GO, individuals traveling to Thailand are required to take out additional insurance. So reported Bangkok Post this morning. This insurance covers the costs in case of, among other things, an admission at lung covid. Now that Omikron gives other complaints compared to the previous variants and the risk of Long Covid is smaller, the compulsory insurance is reduced from 50,000 to 20,000 USD. With this, prime minester Prayut Chan-o-cha hopes to stimulate tourism to travel to Thailand again.

With this easing, the government hopes to boost Tourism to Thailand. The High Season starts April and it is hoped to limit the large losses in the tourism sector this year. Resort and hotel owners indicated weeks ago that they would lower their Test & Go fees in order to positively influence tourism to the island. Thethaiger.com reported.
